Lipstick: Finding 'The One'

Here at Airlie&Co we believe lipstick has everything to do with your personality. It is unlikely you could imagine your most flamboyant friend falling in love with the same one lip colour as your most natural friend, however here is a guide to choosing yourself a fabulous and flattering nude lip, natural lip and a natural bright for your colouring.

If you are still building your lipstick confidence, you can always choose a gloss version of the colour for a tinted or more natural hue.

Nude lipstick

A nude lipstick is a colour lighter than your natural colour, yet with more colour than your skin tone. Not everybody will suit a 'nude' Lipstick so here is a test to see if you are one of the chosen.

Next time you do your eye makeup and foundation base cover your lips with a little bit of foundation and notice to see if your eyes and skin pop, or if you feel flat and lifeless. If its the latter - A natural lipstick may be more up your ally than a nude.

If your your features popped, congratulations - you suit nudes. A great nude for you will be a little fairer than your natural lip colour but in a very similar tone with a mix of your skin/foundation tone eg. warm (yellow, beige, olive, toasty/golden) cool (pink, ivory, alabaster, ruddy or chocolate).

This means if you are cool and fair-medium, you will suit nude tones such as

Natural Lipstick

Next time you are shopping for makeup, it may be best to steralise your hands well and try lipstick on your finger tips, as this is closest to your natural lip colour.

A great natural lipstick should be similar to your lip colour, however add a little further depth and vibrancy. The right tone will also make your skin tone radiate and your eyes pop.

Pinch or bite your lips so the blood flow comes to the surface to get a good idea of a suitable tone.

There is nothing more uplifting than finding the right bright or bold lip colour to make your features pop, compliment an outfit, flatter the skin and complete a statement makeup look.

For bolder looks such as these we recommend creating a perfect skin base first, as any redness coming through can make a bright gorgeous lipstick look messy and unflattering.
